the details of the tsunami in Thailand?

26th December 2004. Phuket,Thailand, west coast conflicted and suffered serious damage when struck by the tsunami in 2004 boxing day. the tsunami caused by the indian ocean earthquake in 2004 and the waves from the ocean inflicted mass damag. within several highly populate. areas in Thailand around the asian region of the world, killing several thousands of peop. nationwide within the asian region. the tsunami  killed 5,300 people and 250 bodies were found dead in phuket. the impact of the tsunami and the including of foreign tourists and perhaps thousands of illegal burmese workers which built a new beach resorts in 2004 in the Khao lak area. almost all of the major beaches on the western coast, including Patong, kamala, karon and kata and sustained the major damag. with some damage caused to resorts and villages on the south beach in Thailand.

on February 2005, many resorts were inflicted with damages when the tsunami hit. the damages were placed into repairs which slowly turned things back to normal around the island. December 2006, Thailand launched the first of 22 U.S made tsunami-detection buoys to be positioned around the indian ocean as part of a regional warning system.the satellite-linked deep-sea buoys floats around 1,000km(620 ml) offshore or roughly midway between Thailand and sri lanka.

what is a tsunami?

Tsunami is a series of waves in a water body caused by the displacement of a large volume of water, generally in an ocean or a large lake. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other underwater explosions (including detonations of underwater nuclear devices), landslides, glacier calvings, meteorite impacts and other disturbances above or below water all have the potential to generate a tsunami.Unlike normal ocean waves, which are generated by wind or tides, which are generated by the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun, a tsunami is generated by the displacement of water.A tsunami wave does not resemble normal sea waves, because their wavelength is far longer. Rather than appearing as a breaking wave, a tsunami may instead initially resemble a rapidly rising tide, and for this reason they are often referred to as tidal waves, although the scientific community does not favor this usage because tsunamis are not tidal in nature. Tsunami's generally consist of a series of waves with periods ranging from minutes to hours, arriving in a so-called "wave train”. Wave heights of tens of meters can be generated by large events. Although the impact of tsunamis is limited to coastal areas, their destructive power can be enormous and they can affect entire ocean basins; the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was among the deadliest natural disasters in human history with at least 230,000 people killed or missing in 14 countries bordering the Indian Ocean.

the 2004 "indian ocean earthquake"

2004's indian ocean earthquake originally occurred at about 00:58:53 UTC. 26th December 2004. with the epicentre off from the western coast of sumatra,Indonesia. this shock had a major magnitude of 9.1 to 9.3 and also a maximum mercailli intensity of IX (Violent).this undersea megathrust earthquake was originally caused when the indian plate was sub-ducted by the burma plate bordering the Indian Ocean, killing 230,000 people in 14 countries, and it triggered a series of devastating tsunami's along the coasts of the most landmasses coastal communities with waves up to 30 metres(100 ft)high. it was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. Indonesia was the hardest-hit country, followed by Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand.

the indian ocean earthquake is the third-largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph.it had the longest duration of faulting ever observed in the world and lasted between 8.3 to 10 minutes. it was caused by the entire planet vibrating as much as 1 centimeter (0.4 inches), it also cause the planet to trigger other earthquakes as far away as Alaska,Its epicentre was between Simeulue and mainland Indonesia. The plight of the affected people and countries prompted a worldwide humanitarian response. In all, the worldwide community donated more than US$14 billion (2004) in humanitarian aid. The scientific community as the Sumatra–Andaman earthquake, knows the event. The resulting tsunami was given various names, including the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, South Asian tsunami, Indonesian tsunami, the Christmas tsunami and the Boxing Day tsunami.
